A recruiter DM'd me on WhatsApp about a remote Tesla job, is it real?
No. Two things give it away immediately: nobody at Tesla runs hiring through a WhatsApp DM, and no genuine recruiter declares you "pre-approved" for a job you never applied to. Add the verify-your-identity-in-24-hours push and you have the fake-recruiter script simply moved onto a chat app. The link confirms it too, it goes to tesla-hr.example, not tesla.com, while Tesla's actual hiring lives on its careers site and involves a real interview. Tesla does not recruit by cold WhatsApp DM, real roles are on its own careers site under tesla.com.

This preys on people who admire Tesla and would love a foot in the door, meeting them where they already chat. Moving to WhatsApp strips away corporate cues, and 'pre-approved, verify in 24 hours' turns excitement into haste, so the target acts before noticing the link was never tesla.com.
Illustrative example of the pattern, not a real message someone received.
How to verify it yourself
- Check the link, Tesla uses tesla.com, not tesla-hr.example or any look-alike with words added.
- Search the role on Tesla's official careers page; a real opening is posted and dated there.
- No genuine recruiter runs the whole process over WhatsApp or declares you 'pre-approved' before an interview.
- Don't verify your identity or share documents to 'lock your spot' in a chat DM.
Common questions
is the Tesla WhatsApp recruiter real
No. Tesla doesn't recruit through WhatsApp DMs with pre-approval and a countdown. The tesla-hr.example link marks it as an impersonator.
is tesla-hr.example an official Tesla domain
No. Tesla recruits through tesla.com. The hr add-on and .top ending are textbook look-alike construction.
does Tesla pre-approve people for jobs over WhatsApp
No. There's no such thing as pre-approval before an application and interview on tesla.com. It's bait to make you act fast.
should I verify my identity to lock a Tesla job spot
No. 'Verify to lock your spot' is the scam's main goal. Real identity checks come after an offer, inside Tesla's onboarding, never in a chat DM.
If you already responded
- Stop the chat and send no ID, bank details, or payment, however close the 'spot' felt.
- If you reused a password on the fake page, change it everywhere and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Report the message at reportfraud.ftc.gov and block the number.
